You can make so many different things using traditional granny squares. In my last post I talked about some of the small blankets I have made using granny squares. Here I’ve used a granny square to make a fat bottomed bag. The bag is lined with matching cotton fabric and decorated with a lace trim and crochet flowers.
To make the bag I followed the instructions in Marinke Slump’s blog post Parisan Chique Fat Bottom Bag.
I was surprised how easy it was to add the lining to the crocheted square, I didn’t think my machine would cope with the thickness of the yarn but it was fine.
I used some plastic rope for the handles which worked well because it was stiff but I think it would have been better to use rope made from natural fibre.
This would be a good stash buster project as you don’t need a lot of each colour to make a reasonable sized bag. I made a smallish bag but you could easily make a larger granny square to give you good sized project bag.
What a fun thing to make out of a granny square! Great job!!!
